Tips for Setting Up Your Home Gym

If you’re in the market for one of the Albuquerque NM new homes and want to create your own home gym, we have a number of home designs that make it easy to do so. From homes with media rooms or those with extra bedrooms, there are plenty of options for creating your own dedicated home gym space that gives you the freedom to workout whenever you want. Plus, you can save time and money, thanks to not having to travel to a gym or pay costly membership fees. You also have the option of customizing your gym to fit your personal interests and needs, while maintaining a healthy, comfortable environment.

First off, think about the type of exercises you plan on doing. This will determine just how much space you really need. If you’re only using a treadmill or exercise bike, you may only need a spot in a guest room or home office. However, if you’re planning on a mix of yoga, cardio, weights, and machines, it’s ideal to have a room dedicated to your exercise goals. This will ensure you have the space to move about and also keep the equipment ready to use so you don’t waste time or motivation.

You don’t have to break the bank to set up your home gym. Basic equipment such as yoga/pilates mats, resistance bands, hand weights, wrist and ankle weights, and a kettle ball or small set of dumbbells are easy to find in a variety of stores, ranging from Target to TJ Maxx, at affordable prices. All of these provide options for cardio and weight training, even if you’re just working on body weight training to start.

If you do want more advanced equipment, such as treadmills, exercise bikes, weight benches, and a wider range of weights, be sure to check out second-hand options, ranging from Craigslist and other local websites to stores that specialize in second-hand exercise equipment. This is particularly useful if you’re trying a new form of exercise out and don’t want to spend a lot in case it’s just not right for you. You can always upgrade later if you decide you want additional features or options.

Make sure you have a decent-sized screen for streaming a range of free exercise and training programs. Plus, if you are going to be using a treadmill or similar machine, then the screen will make it easier to watch entertaining shows that help pass the time. Don’t forget to set up music options, as well, if music helps keep you motivated. You may also want to include a full-length mirror to check your form.

When planning your home gym, make sure you have enough space to easily work out. If you’re trying to swing a kettle ball or do a Zumba workout and keep running into walls or equipment, you’re soon going to lose patience and potentially hurt yourself.

Finally, don’t forget the finishing touches. A small fridge to hold cold drinks, along with shelves for fresh towels, and foam rollers for stretching and easing muscles after a workout all make your home gym feel like a professional gym, but without the extra people and the high costs.
